Hunting back at Woodstock
Michael Lang was among the founders of Woodstock in 1969 -- he may be noticed inside the film on his motorcycle -- and he been involved with the later, significantly less seminal incarnations of your concert in 1994 and 1999. Now he returning towards the original festival in "The Road to Woodstock," a memoir co-written with Holly George-Warren.
Even though Woodstock was planned, much of it had to become improvised, which includes its place. Without having enough time to setup fences or even a suitable perimeter, tickets became meaningless -- men and women just showed up. And who can blame them for driving for hours in rattling VW buses to see Jimi Hendrix, Joan Baez, Neil Young, Canned Heat, Ravi Shankar, Richie Havens as well as the Grateful Dead? OK, I skip the Grateful Dead -- and that precisely what Jerry Garcia, in retrospect, would have advised.
"I had a superb time. but our efficiency onstage was musically a total disaster that is definitely finest left forgotten," he says in the book,http://www.raybanrb.co.uk/. Times, writes:
Among the joys of "The Road to Woodstock" are the voices. Jerry Garcia confesses that the Grateful Dead were as well stoned to play. .
Cultural moments are impossible to duplicate, but it to Lang credit that the mythology of Woodstock nevertheless evokes a wide-eyed sense of possibility, despite its often unsettling echoes in commercials for Coke and blue jeans and life insurance.
"In the previous forty years," he writes, "Woodstock has been the elephant in the space of my life. To maintain it in viewpoint, I've selected to produce the area substantially larger."

It to Mike Lang credit that he makes mention in his book of Elliot Tiber (the man at the center of your forthcoming Ang Lee comedy about Woodstock called - just like Tiber book - TAKING WOODSTOCK). Back in Tiber was the one who contacted Lang as well as the rest of Woodstock Ventures and who supplied each a concert permit (as Bethel Chamber of Commerce president,Ray Ban UK Sale, he had the power to perform so) and who also presented the land around his crumbling motel the El Monaco. Even though the concert ended up staged at Yasgur Farm, the show wouldn happen to be rescued out of Wallkill had Tiber not known as Lang . . . and kudos to Lang for bringing this little piece in the Woodstock miracle into his spirited telling of that marvelous time in our cultural history . . . happy occasions for us all!
